Jette Nygaard-Andersen stepped down as CEO of Entain in December and has now issued a public statement praising the company for its transformation into a responsible operator. She took over as CEO in January 2021, replacing Shay Segev who left to join Dazn. Stella David, a non-executive director, is now serving as CEO on an interim basis while the company seeks a permanent replacement.
In her statement on LinkedIn, Nygaard-Andersen expressed that resigning was not an easy decision but believes she leaves Entain in a “better and stronger position than it has ever been.” She highlighted the transformation of the company to have the highest standards of governance, compliance, and player safety, as well as implementing an effective strategy for further growth.
Nygaard-Andersen commended Entain’s staff for their professionalism and passion during the pandemic, and emphasized that the company has emerged from the pandemic in a strong position, with employees all over the world.
As for her future, Nygaard-Andersen plans to take a break before deciding on her next move, whether it be remaining in the gaming industry or seeking an executive opportunity elsewhere.
Following Nygaard-Andersen’s departure, there have been several changes to the board of Entain. The company has also faced challenges, including a resolution case with the Crown Prosecution Service and a downgrade by Goldman Sachs to sell from buy.
In the time leading up to her resignation, there were reports of discontent and criticism from within the organization and the wider industry. Entain also announced its exit from numerous unregulated markets, with a tracking document revealing plans to withdraw from over 140 markets worldwide.
Throughout her tenure, Nygaard-Andersen led Entain through a period of M&A activity, including the acquisitions of Polish sportsbook operator STS Holding and Angstrom Sports, both of which were highlighted as beneficial for the company.
Despite the challenges, Entain has undergone significant changes under the leadership of Nygaard-Andersen, and the company continues to navigate the evolving landscape of the gaming industry.
