Connecticut Lottery Corporation Partners with Fanatics Betting and Gaming for Sports Betting
The Connecticut Lottery Corporation has announced that it has selected Fanatics Betting and Gaming (FBG), a subsidiary of Fanatics, to be its new sports betting partner in Connecticut. This partnership will see the Fanatics Sportsbook become the lottery’s exclusive sports betting partner, covering both mobile and retail betting, with the transition expected to take place in mid-December.
The Fanatics Sportsbook will be available across ten retail betting locations in Connecticut, as well as on mobile. Greg Smith, president and CEO of the Connecticut Lottery, expressed confidence that the partnership with Fanatics will result in significant growth in market share. Smith emphasized the reputation and innovation of the Fanatics brand in the gaming industry and expressed excitement about the potential for an enhanced sports betting customer experience in Connecticut.
FBG will be taking the place of Rush Street Interactive (RSI), the Connecticut Lottery’s former sports betting partner. RSI and the lottery announced earlier in the year that they would wind down their partnership, giving way for a new partner to continue operating sports betting in Connecticut.
This partnership marks a significant expansion for Fanatics in the US sports betting market, with the company recently acquiring PointsBet US for $150.0m and subsequently launching its Fanatics Sportsbook in multiple states. As FBG takes the place of the third available position in Connecticut, it will effectively block ESPN Bet from launching in the state, at least for now.
Connecticut legalized online sports betting in May 2021, allowing tribal and non-tribal entities to offer sports wagering. With FBG now officially taking the third available position for sports betting through the Connecticut Lottery, it will shape the landscape of sports betting in the state, particularly in competition with heavy hitters such as DraftKings and FanDuel.
The Connecticut Lottery’s partnership with FBG reflects a significant development in the state’s burgeoning sports betting market, with high stakes competition creating a dynamic and evolving landscape for operators and bettors alike.
