Fanatics Betting and Gaming (FBG) has recently revealed the launch of its sportsbook in Iowa, taking over the PointsBet brand in the state. The Fanatics Sportsbook mobile app is now available for download and allows players in Iowa to place bets. Existing PointsBet customers will have their username, password, account balance, rewards points, and responsible gaming settings automatically transferred to the Fanatics Sportsbook.

In addition to the mobile platform, the existing PointsBet retail sportsbook at Catfish Bend Casino will undergo rebranding as a Fanatics Sportsbook. As part of this transition, new self-service betting kiosks from Suzohapp will be installed at the retail location.

Iowa becomes the 12th state where Fanatics Sportsbook is operating, as FBG continues to phase out the PointsBet brand in the US following its acquisition of PointsBet US in August 2023. The sportsbook is also available online in Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia. Additionally, retail betting venues are operational in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Casino gaming through the Fanatics Casino is currently only offered in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

FBG has confirmed that it is on track with its plan to expand into other US markets, but has not specified a timeline for further acquisitions and launches.

Looking at the sports betting market in Iowa, recent monthly results from December showed a handle of $282.7 million, which was a 23.0% increase from the same period in 2022. Revenue also saw a significant increase, reaching $26.3 million in December, compared to $20.4 million the previous year. Diamond Jo Dubuque and FanDuel were the market leaders in December, reporting revenue of $7.2 million from $68.7 million in bets.

The legacy PointsBet brand, in partnership with Catfish Bend Casino, generated $331,818 in revenue from $4.6 million in bets during December. This change in the Iowa sports betting market comes at a time of continued expansion, with FBG adding to its growing presence in the US.
