IG Group experienced a decrease in revenue and net profit for the first half of its 2024 financial year due to softer market conditions and a strong comparative period. However, the company remains optimistic about its future growth and profitability.

In their efforts to streamline and simplify the business, IG Group announced in October that they would be reducing their global staff headcount by approximately 10%. This includes cutting around 300 jobs by the end of the financial year. The decision to streamline the business was made after a review of cost efficiency opportunities and was mentioned during the company’s first quarter results announcement.

In addition to reducing their workforce, IG Group also underwent a change in leadership, with former Paddy Power Betfair chief executive Breon Corcoran stepping in as the new CEO, replacing Charlie Rozes, who had been serving as interim CEO after the departure of former CEO June Felix.

Reflecting on the first half of the financial year, Rozes remained positive about the company’s future, emphasizing their cost-saving plans and the benefits of their diversification strategy, despite revenue weakness in some areas. He highlighted the company‚Äôs exposure to a wider range of revenue drivers, which will support further growth as they deliver on their strategy.

Despite declines in revenue within all business areas and lower total net revenue, IG Group managed to maintain attractive profit margins in the period. However, operating costs were higher, and pre-tax profit and net profit also experienced significant decreases from the previous year.

Rozes expressed confidence in the company’s outlook, stating their position to benefit from the structural growth of self-directed trading and investing and bringing innovative products to the market backed by the best technology and trade execution.

Overall, while IG Group experienced challenges in the first half of its financial year, the company’s strategic actions and optimism about its future could support growth and profitability in the longer run.
