Gambling revenue in Pennsylvania reached an all-time high of $5.70 billion in 2023, driven by record figures from igaming and sports betting. This figure was 9.3% higher than the previous record set in 2022, which was $5.21 billion.

The combined revenue in Pennsylvania includes slot machines, table games, sports wagering, igaming, video gaming terminals (VGTs), and fantasy contests. Physical slots continued to lead the way in revenue, with revenue rising to $2.46 billion. However, land-based table games revenue slipped to $971.7 million.

Revenue from igaming reached $1.74 billion in 2023, surpassing the previous record set in 2022 by 27.7%. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) did not publish a full breakdown of revenue per game type for this market. However, data on individual igaming operators revealed that Hollywood Casino at Penn National led the way with $712.4 million in igaming revenue, followed by Valley Forge Casino Resort and Rivers Casino Philadelphia.

Sports betting revenue also hit an all-time high of $458.6 million in 2023, surpassing the existing record in 2022 by 14.3%. Player spending on sports betting amounted to $7.68 billion, a 6.0% increase from the previous record in 2022.

In December 2023, Pennsylvania set a monthly revenue record with total market revenue reaching $534.2 million, beating the previous record set in March 2023. Retail slots drew the most revenue in December, followed by land-based table games and igaming.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National, Valley Forge Casino Resort, and Rivers Casino Philadelphia were among the leading operators in igaming revenue. In sports betting, Valley Forge Casino Resort and FanDuel led the way with the highest revenue.

Overall, while VLT revenue edged up, fantasy sports revenue fell in 2023. Despite these fluctuations, the overall gambling revenue in Pennsylvania continued to soar in 2023, indicating a strong market for both igaming and sports betting.
