Resorts World Genting, located in Malaysia, is undergoing a multibillion-dollar makeover to revamp the massive mountaintop integrated resort. Situated 1,865 meters (6,118 feet) above sea level, the resort offers a cooler average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius (62 Fahrenheit) compared to Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, 58 kilometers (36 miles) to the south. Set amidst a 130 million-year-old rainforest, RW Genting is the first, biggest, and most unique integrated resort in Asia.

With 13 million square feet (1.2 million square meters) of built area, the resort features seven hotels, 10,500 guest rooms, a large casino, retail space, theme parks, a 5,000 seat arena, convention center, and numerous dining options. The integrated resort primarily caters to domestic and regional gamers, as well as the Muslim majority of Malaysia’s population who are not allowed to gamble. It aims to appeal to all segments of society and all price segments.

As part of the massive upgrade, the resort introduced the plush Crockfords hotel in 2017, adding to its wide range of offerings. The resort draws inspiration from its founder Lim Goh Tong, who began constructing a road up the mountain in 1965. Lim’s son, Lim Kok Thay, serves as chairman and CEO of Genting Berhad, the umbrella entity of the conglomerate that operates RW Genting.

The resort is part of Genting’s global resorts empire, which includes properties in the UK, Egypt, New York, Florida, and the Bahamas, as well as Resorts World Las Vegas. In 2022, RW Genting opened the SkyWorlds theme park, featuring various attractions based on Fox Studios franchises.

The Genting Integrated Tourism Plan, a 10 billion Malaysian ringgit (US$2.1 billion) initiative, has transformed RW Genting over the years. The plan includes the addition of indoor and outdoor theme parks, shopping areas, new hotels, and renovated accommodations.

Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, RW Genting’s gaming operations have shown resilience, with the resort projecting steady growth in gaming revenue. The resort has also seen positive performance in hotel occupancy and overall leisure and hospitality revenue.

Therefore, RW Genting’s multibillion-dollar makeover has breathed new life into the massive mountaintop integrated resort, offering visitors a world-class experience on top of the clouds.
